Update on FORM Athletics

I just wanted to update everyone on what was posted about FORM Athletics loosing K-Swiss the money they claimed...

Although some numbers are correct, K-Swiss blaming FORM for their losses is no fault of anyone at FORM Athletics (Past, present or future).

If you take a look at what K-Swiss has done in the past 6 years you will see that the company alone has gone from a $500 million dollar company to a $200 million dollar company. FORM Athletics was purchased in July of 2010 and K-Swiss took over operations and development shortly afterwards. In the time that FORM was brought on they actually had increased their sales with a combination of FORM, K-Swiss Tubes, Kenny Powers and a recent "Young" marketing plan. However, their poor decisions, lack of direction, refusal to change and poor business management led to a loss across the board. Not to mention over investment in avenues that did not result in a good return on investment.

So where do the numbers come from?

FORM was a "Division" of K-Swiss linked to other Action Sports lines at different levels of development  and K-Swiss has bundled all of these projects into one. Since FORM was the only operating portion of that Division they were blamed for the loss at the end of the Quarter. However, others lines were in a stage that had not hit the market yet which means money was spent, but they have not begun sales (NO PROFIT!).

Regardless, the whole company alone lost many more millions than their Action Sports division. In fact this division was one of their better divisions aside from what they are known for... Tennis.

FORM was blamed for losses that realistically had nothing to do with the brand, they only followed the trend of the parent company. In my opinion, K-Swiss is trying to slander the name of the business before the eventual buy-back from the original owners because they know that without K-Swiss in the picture, FORM will be the success that it WOULD have been without them.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any more detailed questions.

A joke in poor fashion...

What I needed to say would not fit within the 140 Characters that Twitter would allow, which is where my poorly timed "kidding" was said.

Let me put it out in plain sight to see, my intentions for my seemingly underhanded comment about the distribution of Muscle Pharm Apparel in Canada was made in poor judgement and was not intended to say anything about Swift Distribution or it's holders of which I have dealt with on many occasions in the past.

Chris and Dave have always been great colleagues of mine as well as their partner Terry Welbanks who works with them on other projects and I never intended for the comment to undermine what they are doing with their business.

As colleagues and competitors I have ALWAYS looked for like-minded individuals who not only drive their own amazing business but also fuel the competitive nature in this great country and I have always strived to not work against others in this industry but to work with or beside them and help each other out in any way possible.

My comments were made in poor taste and were never intended to insult Swift Distribution or WFS in any way. In fact, I commend them on landing such an amazing contract in Muscle Pharm as well as many of their other brands like: Sprawl, Elevation Mask and many more great brands. I think it is very clear that neither one of our business' are struggling and I personally wish to have a great relationship with all other competitors in this country especially those as clever as Chris, Dave, Terry and everyone involved with the business'.

I have personally messaged Muscle Pharm to clear up the fact that there is nothing wrong with their distribution, and it was an uncalled for comment from a competitor who wished nothing but the best for Swift and WFS.

I hope that everyone involved can accept by sincere apologies for the inappropriate comment made on Twitter. I would never take anything to a public manner if I were serious and I meant the comment as a joke between competitive colleagues. Nothing more.

Please do not take my comments as anything insulting or condescending towards Swift or WFS as we work with them on other projects. I take back anything I have said and will be taken off of all public forums so that no one will be able to further view them and I apologise for those who had a chance to view them.

Sincerely,

I hope Jon Jones doesn't read my blog...

I figured I was safe posting something on my blog as I doubt Jon Jones reads my blog...

I think that even if he did, I am sure he may somewhat see my side of it and I hope that he would respect my opinion because I am not some outsider or "Fan Boy" saying something that I don't know anything about.

For those who remember, I personally was THE ONLY person who brought FORM Athletics to Canada until K-Swiss purchased the brand and eventually decided to include FORM as a part of their Canadian Division of K-Swiss earlier in 2011 I was left out of the equation. Not before restructuring my business to a major success without the brand who now struggles for sales in this country I might add...

So when I say something about Jonny Bones it is based on real accounts, actual events and educated opinions, etc, etc, etc.

That sounded pretty vengeful didn't it? Well, let me be the first to say that I have no vengeance towards FORM, K-Swiss, Mark Miller, Urijah Faber, K-Swiss Canada or any fighters on their payroll including Jon Jones. In fact, I still talk to all of these people today and I support the brand, fighters and people involved and I consider former President and Founder Mark Miller a mentor of mine.

As I write this, maybe I should post this as my article for Behind the Shirt on MMAsucka.com too.

So let's get to why I wanted to speak my mind on this topic. In the past I have had an issue with how Jonny Bones Jones represented himself and the people who paid his way in this industry. Even after I had left FORM I still wished that Jon had more support for the brand who invested a lot (and I mean A LOT) of money in him, outside of just walking out in the shirt and shorts for the fights.

I also felt that JBJ needed a sense of humbleness that he never seemed to have even when he first started. I am the first person to love the cocky athlete who feels like he can't be beat. I am actually the guy who likes the players with an ego like crazy: Lebron James, Tiger Woods, David Beckham, Kobe Bryant, Alexander Ovechkin, Andy Roddick, Allen Iverson, etc. However, all of those people have had times when they have been humbled by their superiors, colleagues or otherwise and usually on a grand stage of some sort.

Tonight, as I watched UFC 140 in a city that I grew up in on a night that was filled with a ton of viewers and media attention Jon Jones was faced with adversity for the first time and still succeeded in his title defense in a tough division full of fighters going for his throat. In a true form of Bones' maturing process, instead of letting his arrogance reign he was humble and admitted that he was fear of defeat (although he lined it with confidence... we caught that Bones). Recently, and maybe by the recommendation of the people who pay his bills, he has been a much better representative of those who allow him to fight in the sport that he chose (because let's be honest, we could all see him as a Wide Receiver, Small Forward, Center Fielder, Striker or whatever sport he chose...). I know his management team has more arrogance than even he will ever have, but we have all learned to ignore the ego's of useless and ignorant management that some in this industry have, but sometimes talent can prevail over the bad news that representation can create for you. I have heard some horror stories about Jon Jones, but maybe he is unfortunately being grouped in with the integrity of his management and that is unfortunate for him. I do have actual accounts of events that Jon made his own decisions on, but considering his age it is easy to blame his age and immaturity for those if I needed to convince myself of otherwise.

I appreciate that with all of these defenses of his title, JBJ seems to be maturing fast. I hope that he does continue to overcome the reputation that he and his people have created for him as I think that with talent like he has there is no stopping Jonny "Bones" Jones in multiple title defenses and multiple belts in multiple divisions... Yeah, I said it. I'm sure I am not the only one to think it either.

In the case that Jon does read this? Let's be clear, I have always thought that he was the best in the division, called wins in every one of his fights, supported every fight and never said that I had any problem with anything he has ever done. But, you are in a small industry and people talk... So if someone is going to pay your way (and allow you to buy a Bentley Continental) make sure you speak highly of those people and make sure that you make their money well spent. They invested in you, so make them their money back to the BEST of your ability for 365 days per year. Not just when you fight. Granted you fought 4 times this year... Impressive.

That should be a lesson to ALL fighters, athletes, actors, etc.

To "skew" an existing saying... "There are only 2 things that are inevitable in life: Death and Taxes". Notice that SPONSORS are not included in there. Bills and taxes will continue to add up, but even if your career goes on as long as Tito's the bills won't stop coming... the sponsorships will end. QUICKLY.

Quietly, I hope Bones does read this...

He can call me if he wants. He can easily get my phone number from Malki, Mark, Urijah or even my website. I think that even he, in his maturing process would agree that I am right. Maybe, he'll call me anyways. We can hang out if he wants.

My regular article on MMASucka

Not much of a blog, but more like a call to comment and debate on my bi-weekly article that I write for MMASucka.

You will see a lot more of my writings soon as I have signed some deals to write for other companies too.
Anyways, I started a debate that I would like as many comments and opinions on via any of our social medias.

NEW Beta Website!

After many weeks of yelling at a computer and procrastinating (for good reasons...) the Beta Version of our new website is up and running!
Aside from some missed links, everything is there and functional. Some logins are disabled and some services will not be available for a few weeks (working with a developer to make sure they are all work before puslishing) but solutions to those problems are offered in their place.

Take a look and tell me what you think. Let me know if you find any issues other than what I will be changing later today (Sorry MMA Expo - I will fix the link) and I will be making some quick design changes at the same time.

Most importantly, the retailer logins are temporarily disabled but you can fill out the application and get your login information so that you can use them as soon as they are available. In the meantime, when your application is received you will be sent a link to download all of the most up to date catalogs and orderforms.

Last but not least, we will be announcing a Consumer section to the website so that we can have customers buying the products that they want too. While that is in the works, please feel free to use Coupon Code: "derailed" at one of our affiliates http://www.dominantground.com/ for 10% off your purchase.

Give me a shout on any of our social media sites or contact us to let me know what you think!

Lots more news coming soon...

Wedding

This is, and will continue to be a crazy month.
Some of you may know that this past weekend was my wedding to my beautiful, new wife Elizabeth Wilson (Yup, she's not wussing out and not taking my name!) and now we both work our butts off for the next 2 weeks so that we can go on our honeymoon at the end of the month. Before you ask, we are going to the Dominican Republic.

So if that isn't enough of a reason to be a busy month we will also be making some announcements about advancements in Derailed Industries as well as some other projects that are coming down the pipe.

Check back for more details and I promise that the new website that I promised you will be up early this week.

New Website

I thought I would start off with some business news instead of a rant on "who knows what"...

Over the past few weeks I have been working diligently on updating the Derailed Industries website to make it a little informative and useful. For those of you who know me you will know that I don't like to pay someone to do something that I can do myself. Obviously, I don't have the time (or talent...) to make it fully operational. So, in the coming weeks that design that should go up tomorrow evening at the latest will be updated to the official version that will include online ordering, a consumer section, Affiliates options, and catalog downloads.

Look for the new design late tomorrow and I will make everyone know when full accessability is up and running.

You will have the ability to submit Retailer Applications and we are also looking for more affiliate marketing over the next few weeks.

Please email me with any Affiliate Marketing plans if you would like to be involved.

Check http://www.derailedindustries.com/ tomorrow evening for the design updates...
